Green chimneys week 8

So I've been involve with a few tour groups now but this last one I co-lead a tour, and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be I got a rush from it and remembered what it was like when I volunteered at a farm.  There was always  a constant rush of people that always kept us busy and made the days flyby. In the upcoming week I'm going to a environmental studies conference through Green chimneys I cant wait It will be a great way to connect with the others in the field.

Green chimneys week 7

At the end of every other week we turn in learn and earn sheets , these sheets show the time a kid has put into working with us up at the farm.  The total time we write depends on what work the kid has done not the total time spent.  An example of this is if I had the kid for 1 hour and they did 15 mins worth of work I would put down that I got the kid at 2:00 and had them till 3:00, then in the total time spent I would write 15 mins.  On the other hand, lets say that I had the kid for 30 mins. but they did work worth more than that, I'd put in that I got them at 2:00 and I had them till 2:30, then in total I'd put 45 mins. This helps GC track how the kids handle work without going into crisis and we are able to see through these different jobs if these kids would be able to work in the real world.

Green Chimneys week 6

I worked with the kids for the first time this past week, it was more than i expected it to be but a lot less difficult than I had thought.  I got to know more of the kids and even started learning some names.  Its hard to think of things to do that take anywhere from 20-37 mins. its hard because each kid has different challenges and abilities.  Besides that it has been fun so far and I'm hoping to explore more with the facilities around the campus.

Green Chimneys week 5

This past week we finished training and I will be beginning learn and earn where we work with the student in an environment that teaches them while helping the work ethic.  G.C. has been actively searching for a farm animal supervisor and we might soon have a new one. I hung out with my dorm and learned about each of my kids there.  working with them has proven difficult, which is why I'm looking forward to it.
